Need an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily demands? I have just the ticket… Plan a fall adventure to Enchanted Acres located at 1071 250th Street, Sheffield, Iowa! Our pumpkin farm offers engaging activities for people of all ages – from infant to 100!
Located just 2 miles east of Exit 176 off Interstate 35 on county road C13, it’s easy to get here. What can expect once you arrive? Expect to spend about two hours enjoying the great outdoors! P.S. Be sure to wear your play clothes. Climbing on repurposed tractor tires, feeding our goats and trekking through the woods are more fun when you don’t have to stay clean. :)
Here’s my “Top 10” list to make your time at Enchanted Acres most enjoyable:
Explore Happy Hallow. As you wind your way through trails in our woods, be on the lookout for the pixies that like to hide behind trees and around plants. Enjoy a leisurely stroll. Listen for birds that sing. Hear the leaves crunch under your feet. Take a deep breath and enjoy the day!
*Fire the pumpkin cannon. Let your inner child loose as you fire the pumpkin cannon and aim for targets set up in our alfalfa field. Hit a target and take home bragging rights plus a FREE pie pumpkin, which is the perfect size for either baking or painting.
Tackle Belle Tower. Our weekly crafting classes are enjoyable for little hands and big hands alike! This year I’m especially excited to offer a Wine & Canvas class, too. Each week we offer different crafting workshops, ranging from duct tape pumpkins to wreath making. Many parents and children enjoy decorating pumpkins together. Consider this activity for bridal showers, baby showers, birthday parties, family reunions, mother-daughter dates, Girls Day Out… you name it!
*Hop on a hayride. Take a leisure (Sunday or Saturday) ride around our little farm. Our tractor drive will leave the port each hour. Buy your tickets inside The Market, and take in the beautiful fall colors from a seat on a hayrack. Feel the sun kiss your cheek and the wind gently tousle your hair. At the end of your ride, enjoy the gooey goodness of a campfire s’more around our beautiful fire pit. NOTE: You can reserve this area for your own private bonfire. Wallow in Wonderland. Watch kids engage in “creative play” and watch their imaginations run wild. You might be surprised by how long they can play on repurposed tires without getting bored. Rest your feet – and your mind – as you sit on a park bench and enjoy this mini break!
Embark on an Animal Adventure. No trip to Enchanted Acres would be complete without visiting Nibbles, our resident pygmy goat. She’s been with us since the beginning, and she looks forward to getting fed by our annual visitors. Nibbles enjoys hanging out with her daughter, Snickers. You might notice the two of them lay claim to the bridge. The larger goats are the Boer breed, which are raised for meat. Believe it or not, goat meat is a delicacy in many cultures. We don’t eat our pets, however. :)
Create an Instagram Moment. Enchanted Acres is a place "where memories take root". We've installed several new landscaping areas which provide ample places to capture those memories on camera. Make sure to tag us in your posts on social media! We love to relive your visits to Enchanted Acres each year!
Shop The Market. Remember how much Cinderella enjoyed visiting the market? You can, too! This year Holly from Chapin Station has designed specific displays for children, vintage farm flair and fall décor. We’re also offering jars of homemade pumpkin butter, apple butter and jams. Our homemade dip and bread mixes are back by popular demand. We’ve also added a few new food items, so be sure to check out the new product offerings inside our barn.
*Enjoy Marketplace Snacks. Our “concession stand” has grown up! We’ll continue to offer classics like hot dogs and popcorn, but we’ve expanded our menu for 2015. In addition to homemade hot apple cider and flavored coffees, we’ll offer Pumpkin Spice Lattes, campfire pizza pies, panini sandwiches and a Soup of the Day. Our NEW Brown Bag Lunches feature a crustless PB&J or ham and cheese, juice box, carrot sticks and applesauce. Enjoy a fall picnic lunch on the farm with your family!
Pick a Pumpkin. What would a trip to a pumpkin farm be without taking home a pumpkin? Venture into the field to select the perfect pumpkin or pick straight off the pallet – either way, you’ll find a great variety. In fact, we plant more than 20 varieties of winter squash and pumpkins.
P.S. I promise our pumpkin prices won’t break the bank! As a young mom, I would cringe when I saw signs that read “Pumpkins by the pound.” That’s why we sell by the pumpkin. Our prices are marked on the bottom of the pumpkins found on each pallet; we will price any pumpkins brought in from the field. That way, you won’t be unpleasantly surprised at the cash register.
*Denotes activities offered on Saturdays and Sundays only.
What began as a roadside fruit stand in 2012, has grown each year. We strive to make improvements that in turn create more enjoyable experiences for our guests. That’s why we value your opinion. If there’s are activities or attractions that you’d like us to consider adding in the future, please contact me!
