As a child, I couldn’t wait for Disney’s featured presentation on special Sunday nights. Tinkerbell would wave her magic wand and fireworks would be brilliantly displayed around Cinderella’s Castle, signaling the movie was about to begin.
There’s just something magical about watching a movie or reading a book about Disney® characters. We can virtually travel to another place in time and experience new adventures. We can escape our every-day-realities and simply live in the moment.
“Creating magical memories for families” is our mission at Enchanted Acres. As I wrote on my website:
“Enchanted Acres is a place where all families can escape reality for a few hours and simply enjoy spending time together in the great outdoors. It’s ‘that happy place’ where kids, from 2 to 92, can channel Cinderella or Jack Sparrow. Enchanted Acres is a place where we all can dream…”
Finding a way to make the world better – whatever the odds, whatever the obstacles – is the foundation of the Make-a-Wish organization. Its mission is to “grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.”
You can be a part of this life-changing experience for children in Iowa! Join us Saturday, September 26 from 9 AM to 5 PM, when Enchanted Acres presents the Make-a-Wish Fall Ball. Enchanted Acres is located at 1071 250th Street, Sheffield, Iowa. But your Garmin® may not find us!
The easiest way to get to Enchanted Acres is to take Interstate 35 to Exit 176 and head east toward Sheffield/Greene. Our little pumpkin patch is just 2 miles east of the interstate. NOTE: 250th Street is the same as County Road 13 (C-13). From Highway 65, turn west at the Casey’s convenience store in Sheffield. Follow C-13 through the town of Sheffield and then go west out of town about 4 miles.
A suggested contribution of $5 per person or $20 per carload will get you inside the gate; all proceeds will directly benefit Make-a-Wish Iowa. Once inside the gate, your children will be treated to the Pirate Bounce House, Balloon Animals, Face Painting, and plenty of photo opportunities. Be sure to pet our goats and rascally rabbits! Explore the playground. Walk through Happy Hallow and keep an eye out for fairies. (There are 7 fairies that make their home in our woods!)
Kids are encouraged to dress us as princesses, pirates or anything that will make their day more magical! We will have fairy wings and pirate hats for sale inside The Market. We’ll also be selling kids’ meals, hot dogs and grilled pork burgers at Marketplace Cafe, located inside our jolly red barn.
NOTE: Make-a-Wish families from North Iowa will receive a wristband that gives them access to all activities except the glitter pumpkin workshop.
